You Were Doing It to Me

37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?
39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?’ 40 And the King will tell them, ‘I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’
Matthew 25:37-40

We have been on something of a quest this year. My leaders and I have been studying our way through a book entitled The Externally Focused Church. Our desire has been to appropriate what we are learning immediately… even if we don’t do it perfectly. We are intending to learn as we go… and we are.

This week almost 50 middle school students ministered to people in their 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and two who were 101! Instead of sitting in a group relying on leaders to do ministry, it was kids painting fingernails and making cards and doing interviews. I was so proud of our students!!! I have a strong feeling that Jesus was too. In fact, I can almost hear Him saying, “When you ministered to the least of these… you were doing it to me.”
