Easter Sunday: Proof

This coming Sunday is Easter Sunday. We will take a careful look at the Resurrection of Jesus and what role it plays in our faith. We will turn to the book immediately following Romans to study through much of 1 Corinthians 15. Clearly Easter has become a trademark of the Christian faith, but why? What makes this day more special than any other? If Jesus did rise from the dead, what does that mean? What if He did not? What does the evidence say? Is there any proof that Jesus came back from the dead?

As you answer these questions, how do your answers inform your faith?

1. Why is it significant that the death & resurrection of Christ had been prophesied?
2. What parts of his death were talked about in advance (vv.3-4)?
3. How do the sightings in vv.5-8 strengthen the case for the resurrection?
4. In what way(s) can you understand some of the skepticism surrounding the concept of resurrection?
5. Do you think Paul is being overly dramatic in vv.13-18? Why or why not?
6. What are vv.21-22 talking about? In what way did Adam bring death to every human?
7. In what way is Jesus’ resurrection a fulfillment of the prophecy that He will be given authority over all things (vv.24-28)?
8. What is the answer given to the question raised in v.30?
9. What will happen to those of us who believe in Jesus who do not die before Jesus returns (vv.51-53)?
10. What is the ultimate fulfillment of a prophecy made by Isaiah about our future (vv.54-57)?
