Most of us have an adverse reaction to change. After all, we work hard to create environments that are appealing to us. Why would we want to change them? Because we naturally resist change we want to build this philosophy of creative change into the value system of Process Church.
The reasons to have creative change as a main value are as endless as the discussion itself. God exhibits this kind of creativity all throughout history… starting in the beginning (pun intended).
The passage we’ll dive into this week is 2 Corinthians 3:7-14, 17-18. Luke will challenge our thinking on what following Jesus really looks like. Let’s answer these questions to get the heart of what following Jesus is about…
1. Why did Jesus say we must hate others & even ourselves to be his disciple – v.26?
2. What did Jesus know about the way we view our relationships – v.26?
3. What did Jesus know about the way we view ourselves – v.26?
4. What do you think “carry(ing) your own cross” entails – v.27?
5. What is behind this idea of “counting the cost” – v.28?
6. What is the negative effect of not “counting the cost” – vv.29-30?
7. Do you think v.33 is meant literally? If not, how do you take it?
8. As it relates to following Jesus, what is the salt spoken of in vv.34-35?
9. Understanding that definition, is it possible to not be salty enough? What would that look like?
10. Understanding that definition, is it possible to be too salty? What would that look like?
11. How do you determine your own level of saltiness?
12. What relationship does saltiness have to following Jesus?
