Rob McQueary, and Jack Elias
In any discussion of this magnitude the challenge is in the language. As we approached a discussion where all knew ahead of time that we did not share final beliefs, a fair question was posed to each of us. “Why do you think the path that you have chosen is the best path?” From there the three of us began to state why we have chosen the road we have and why we thought it best. The frustration came as we often used similar (and even the same) words and phrases to describe the merits of our choice. At least for my own purposes, my plan for next time is to do a bit more research on the terminology used by each path and the intended meaning of the same.
My strong opinion is that, generally speaking, debates don’t work… least of all to change the beliefs of the debaters. Had this day been framed as such, I would have declined. Thankfully, Mark is seeking to have a conversation. And while this approach can be longer, more difficult, and harder to tell “who won”… I appreciate “talking with” over being “talked to”. I think we succeeded.
The show is being polished. I’ll let you know when and where it goes live.
