Rob, I don’t know if you’ve read “Generous Justice” by Tim Keller, but I highly recommend it. One of the points he makes is about the need to move in to communities and be a part of them, not just write checks. It is a very convicting read.

I’ve not read it yet, but I have the title memorized because of your obvious excitement related to it. It is on my to-read list.
